Not much going on these days, just enjoying the warmth, while watching the weather reports from around home. Temps there are now in the -20's and -30C area.
Within sight of our camp is Cunningham mountain, bristling with lots of radio towers. Looked like a good possibility for a hike so drove to the base one day and flew up for a look. Couldn't make it all the way to the top, but it looked enticing!
Across the valley, this cabin on the mountainside guarded the entrance to a mine.
A couple days later, I was back, ready to hike. This is a view of the very steep road on the way up. Big GM is waiting at the gate down below.
The steepest sections of the road have been paved with concrete.
On top, all sorts of interesting towers and antennas -if you like that sort of thing. I do! And a great view of the area; over to Blythe, back to Quartzsite, and south towards Yuma.
Meanwhile, Hailey has been hard at work keeping the denizens of the wash suitably nervous.
Her little friends only show up at night. We've heard or seen very few coyotes anywhere this winter, but these little foxes seem to be everywhere - you just never see them in daylight!
Other wildlife in the area ...
Hummingbird hiding in the bush.
And, there have been some spectacular sunsets!
My favourite, I think!
Friends Ernie & Deb have been in the area a week or so now, and friend Kevin stopped by on a whirlwind trip down from Ottawa, so we all stopped in at Silly Al's Pizza for an excellent meal, before the big show crowds make the lines too long.
Rumour has it that Jean & Skip are in the area, as well as John & Brenda, as well as a rapidly growing community of 20,000 or so other campers converging on the area as they do every year at this time. Who knows, Wandering Willy may even make an appearance later?
Peace and quiet away from the crowds at our camp spot!
We'll be pulling up stakes here shortly, next destination, yet to be determined. And that's our final decision!
Hey that's not fair, your getting all the great Southwest sunsets and sunrises now. I like all that tower stuff too. Neat-O. Can't remember if you have been to the top of Harquahala Mountain near Aguila or not. Lots of neat stuff up there too. I am envious of your travels to say the least. This having to stay home this year is the PITS!!!!
ReplyDeleteLooks like a great hike. Some spectacular views up there. Glad Hailey is enjoying her guard duties. I agree, I think that was my favourite photo too.
ReplyDeleteFantastic sunset pictures! Love 'em! Since Al can't be there this year (yet), I'm sure glad you can post some.
ReplyDeleteTruly missing those Quartzsite Sunsets this Winter
ReplyDeleteMy mouth is watering just thinking about Silly Al's Pizza.
Be Safe and Enjoy escaping the crowds.
It's about time.
Wow, very nice sunset pics. Good idea to get out of there before the big crowd hits. Seems like everyone we meet lately is heading to Q. Yikes!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful sunset pictures. Great catch on the hummingbird and the playful foxes. Looks like you've got some night time camera toys. I seem to remember climbing that mountain in my jeep one year. My memory is getting so poor, it may have been another one like it.
ReplyDeleteCheck out the news from 2 days ago..Somewhere in Ca. 3 Wiley Coyotes met their match with one rascally Kitty-Kat..
ReplyDeleteIt was caught on camera...
David
Pretty brave cat, but I think the coyotes were just pups!
DeleteYou can be as social (or not) as you please. I like that, I need both in my life.
